2025-09-25 19:06:12

Together with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and the Advertising Standards Authority, the General Pharmaceutical Council has just issued an updated enforcement notice that gives guidance on the law governing the advertising of medicines and how breaches of the law and of the GPhC’s guidance will be enforced https://assets.pharmacyregulation.org/files/2025-09/Enforcement-Notice-prescription-only-medicines-used-for-weight-management-September-2025.pdf?VersionId=nUC_VEq4b2qZE3G2I1dibaU3jMM6nHp_

Amongst other things, the GPhC says advertisers should avoid:

  • language that refers to POMs, such as “weight-loss injection”, “obesity treatment jab” or “GLP-1”
  • imagery likely to be understood as depicting an injection pen
  • ads for general weight management products or services that direct consumers to other ads, such as website landing pages, promoting POMs
