We reported on 31 March 2025 that as result of agreement between the Department of Health and Social Care and Community Pharmacy England on a new Community Pharmacy Contract Framework, distance selling pharmacies would no longer be able to provide advanced or enhanced services to patients on the pharmacy premises. This change will be made through the National Health Service (Charges, Remission of Charges and Pharmaceutical Services etc.) (Amendment and Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2025. The change will take effect on 1 October 2025.
These Regulations, which have just been laid before Parliament, will also abolish the exemption for distance selling pharmacies from the market entry restrictions in the National Health Service (Pharmaceutical and Local Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2013. The abolition will take effect on 23 June 2025. Existing distance selling pharmacies will continue to operate as now, except for the future change relating to the provision of advanced and enhanced services.
