The Government has temporarily made certain synthetic opioids which are being misused as new psychoactive substances subject to additional controls.
The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (Temporary Class Drug) Order 2026 comes into force on 11 June 2026 and will remain in effect for one year.
The substances are:
- Cychlorphine (N-propionitrile chlorphine)
- Spirochlorphine (R-6890)
- 5,6-Dichloro desmethylchlorphine (SR-17018)
- Etodezitramide
- Spirobrorphine
- Chlorphine 5,6-dichlorobrorphine (SR 14968)
While the controls are in force, the substances are to be treated as Schedule 1 controlled drugs and subject to the Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) Regulations 1973.
